Water Street Hotel & Marina is a 30 room boutique hotel built in 2007 and located in downtown Apalachicola. The three story hotel fronts the Apalachicola River and includes marina slips available for guest use. The rooms here are closer to suites than traditional hotel rooms and include a separate living room, full kitchen, washer/dryer and a screened-in porch overlooking the marina and pool. There are a few rooms with a single bedroom, but most have two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Rates for a two bedroom accommodation can get as low as $109 in the off-season and has high as $500 during special events but typically range from $150-250. The hotel is nonsmoking and accepts pets for an extra $30.

As for amenities, an outdoor pool is available, but it’s unheated so only polar bears swim in winter. The limited breakfast is continental style and includes muffins, yogurt and juice. There is a welcome beer and wine service as well. Yoga classes are offered for those so interested. Apalachicola is easy to walk around, and a number of seafood restaurants are within a few blocks. A Mexican place and bar and grille are slightly further away.

The hotel has a 7 day cancellation policy, so absent a hotel from hell type scenario, this was home for the night. Facilities such as the hallways, elevators, and building exteriors were in good order and clean. The room was spacious and clean except for a small spot on a bed cover. There was no street noise or noise from other units to speak of. With a choice of either a king size bed and a bunk bed, it was a no-brainer to go with the bunk bed; kidding of course, this was not summer camp. The king bed was comfortable. Also the heater and bathroom controls both worked properly. The day had been a long one, so sleep came quickly and the next day it was off to St Vincent National Wildlife Refuge. The hotel rented bikes at the time but no longer does so. A very helpful maintenance man helped get the bike into the car, provided some rope and tied an ingenious knot to keep the open trunk in place. His service was first rate, and the ladies at the front desk also were personable and service minded. Given the higher price, nice location and a private marina, you should spend more than a night here to enjoy some R&R. However, even for a night it was a pleasant, and a future visit would be favorably considered.
