Nature's Food Patch Market & Café is an independent natural food grocery store located in Clearwater and about a mile from the Gulf of Mexico. It’s a single location business. Natural and organic fruits and vegetables are mainstay items here, though meat and seafood are also available. The store touts a salad bar with over 60 choices. Additional selections include soups, homemade desserts and hot items such as pasta, pizza, steak, chicken, tofu, beans and rice. There also is a smoothie bar with many healthy concoctions.

The store began as a cooperative in the early 1980s. It was purchased by the current owners in 1987 and moved to this location in 1994. The store is located in a decent middleclass area, neither excessively upscale nor unduly ghetto. Parking was free and ample. The look and feel of both the main store area and the café section was tasteful and contemporary, with hardwood floors and modern equipment and furnishings. The café was spacious enough to enjoy some privacy. It was also quiet, clean and well stocked with napkins, condiments, etc…

If you like going to Whole Foods for salads or prepared foods, you will feel right at home here. Nature's Food Patch has the same type of setup with an extensive salad bar and fresh foods. However, it is better than many comparable shops in that the prepared foods are tastier and more varied. The prepared food dishes are listed each day on the store's Twitter and Facebook pages so you can go to either website to see what’s on the menu. The smoothie bar was chock full of interesting flavors and combinations of sweet fruits, hearty vegetables and various supplements and vitamins. With so much to choose from, dinner was a smorgasbord of both salad bar and prepared food selections. Primary items included beans, rice, stir fry vegetables, chipotle pasta, eggs, and carrots. It was a healthy and appetizing mix of flavors and tastes, and it all went well with a Feeling Groovy banana and apple smoothie and a cake from the bakery. When variety is king and natural food is on the agenda, Nature’s Food Patch is a good choice for lunch or dinner. Note that the cafe can attract a lot of traffic at peak lunch and dinner times, so it pays to come early or late. Food service closes an hour before the store closes. Also, for all professional wrestling fans, Hulk Hogan met his current wife here and is a periodic shopper.
