Walk in Walt's Disneyland Footsteps Guided Tour is a 3 hour tour of parts of Disneyland with a focus on the park’s history and earliest rides and attractions. In addition to the park itself, the tour includes a visit to Walt Disney’s personal apartment, a boxed lunch and a personalized pin. While the tour has a steep price tag of $109 per person, a 20% discount is available for those with an annual pass, Disney Visa card or AAA members.

The footsteps tour is typically offered once per day at 9:30am, but during busier times the park sometimes will schedule a second tour at 2:30pm. A couple of rides are usually included on the tour, but it’s primarily a walking tour so wear comfortable shoes. Plan to arrive at least 20-30 minutes before the tour starts in case you need extra time or hit some delays. Handicapped people can be accommodated.

There were about 15 people on the tour. The guide used a wireless microphone and each participant is provided a listening device, so the commentary was crystal clear. The primary guide was pleasant but somewhat guarded. A separate guide escorted the group to Walt’s private apartment, which is behind a magic door to areas normally off-limits to the public, and where no pictures were permitted. She had an over-the-top sentimental tone that certain Disney cast members seem to have been inculcated with, unlike a less polished parking attendant who reacted in a less polished manner when his parking directions were not heeded. Walt's apartment overlooks Main Street and was surprisingly modest, just a large room with a small bathroom and kitchen. It was most interesting because of its modesty. The rest of the tour included commentary about and visits to Main Street storefronts, a carousel, the Magic Kingdom, the Disney Gallery, and a theatre with an animatronic Abraham Lincoln. Gallery displays rotate but at the time included interesting exhibits on the history of the Magic Kingdom. The group also went on the classic Peter Pan ride and the Disneyland Railroad. This tour aint cheap but was enjoyable and reasonably informative as well. It works best as a supplement to the park not a substitute for it and will most appeal to those into history.
