First review
The one and only Disneyland Disneyland is a world famous 160 acre amusement park which opened in 1955. It was created by Walt Disney and is the only Disney park that opened during his lifetime. Disneyland Resort includes additional shops, restaurant and hotels, but this review covers just the park.

A transformative figure, Walt Disney was a modest yet ambitious man who came to California with little but his talent and left this world as a cultural icon. He was highly successful in multiple pursuits, but his greatest accomplishment is probably the joy he brought to so many children. Disney came up with the idea for a park while watching his daughters on a carousel. He envisioned a park where adults could more actively participate. That simple idea was the genesis for the entertainment meccas that the Disney parks have become. Walt Disney was so personally involved with the park’s creation that he did not sleep for two days prior to opening day, yet his opening remarks only took 26 seconds.

You can squeeze a visit here into a day, but having two days will make it much more enjoyable. Doing some advanced planning about rides and attractions also is a good idea. For example, Thunder Mountain Railroad, Nemo’s Submarine and the Haunted Mansion were closed at the time, and Star Tours, Autopia and Matterhorn Bobsleds can all be skipped. Use fast passes whenever possible to minimize wait times. Also, try and visit offseason, such as in January or October when it’s less crowded. Space Mountain is the best ride and one of the most famous. Additional fun attractions included Splash Mountain (flume water ride), Pirates of the Caribbean (classic Disney animatronics) and Fantasyland which has many of the old classic rides such as Peter Pan and Mr. Toad. The train was a good way to see more of the park. Don’t miss the Disney Gallery to learn more about the park’s history and to see an animatronic display of Abraham Lincoln. Lastly, you should catch a live show. While they can be cheesy, these shows are part of the Disney mythos. Disneyland is an entertainment gem, especially for kids. It’s a place everyone should experience at least once, but it’s not cheap. Between the entrance fee, parking and food, your tab can range from $100-150. A multiday pass can save a little money.
