The Hampton Inn Austin-NW/Arboretum has six floors, 124 floors, and was built in 1995. This is an economy style hotel with all standard rooms and no suites. The hotel fronts the Mopac Expressway and is located in an office and light commercial area. It’s is a non-smoking property, but pets are accepted and without an extra fee. Room rates can get as low as $100 on slower weekends and up to $200 during busier weekdays. Parking is free.
As for the amenities, there is a pool here but it’s outdoors and not heated, so is only open to polar bears in the winter. The workout room is small, but has a few cardio machines and some free weights. Rooms on the third-sixth floors also have a small refrigerator. The only microwave for guests is located in the breakfast area off the lobby. A hot breakfast is offered every day and includes such items as sausages, eggs, bagels, waffles and juice. A free courtesy shuttle is available within a 5 mile radius of the hotel and runs during the morning and in the evening. Two restaurants are within a nearby walk of the hotel – a seafood and hamburger place called Sam’s Boat and also a Burger King. A Homewood Suites hotel is next door.
This was an unplanned stay. The initial lodging choice turned out to be unsatisfactory, and the Hampton Inn was nearby so figured it was worth a try. Summer is generally the slow season in Austin due to the scorching heat, and the hotel was only about half full. The hotel front clerk accommodated a request for a quiet room on a higher floor. Note that if you are noise sensitive, you should request a room facing away from the highway. The room was clean, and furnishings were in good shape. The bed was clean and comfortable. A sign was left on the bed indicating that the duvet had been cleaned as well. Both the AC controls and bathroom equipment worked properly. A minor negative in the bathroom was a narrow shower, which had one of those handle bars sticking out which made it narrower still. Otherwise, the bathroom was fine. Hall noise and noise from other rooms was not an issue. There was not enough time to have breakfast the next day, but many other guests were partaking. Even though this hotel was not on the travel agenda, the stay here turned out to be both pleasant and quite satisfactory. While it’s a basic hotel, this Hampton Inn delivered the goods. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable, and the rate was reasonable at $122. As such, this hotel would be a good option for economy style lodging in Austin. It’s also only a 15 minute drive from downtown.
