Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Woodland Hills is an economy hotel with 2 main floors, 86 rooms and 16 suites. This is a nonsmoking property, does not accept pets, and was built in 2009. Basic rooms range from $130-170; suites are typically $20 more. Parking is free.
Hotel amenities include a very small outdoor pool, which was not heated. There also is a small workout room and guest computers. A breakfast with some hot items is included as well. All the rooms have a small refrigerator, but the suites also have a microwave oven and a pullout couch. The hotel is located in a generally blue collar type of neighborhood. It was not unsafe but neither was it upscale. The hotel is next to a small shopping center with a Smart & Final warehouse style grocery store and a Domino’s Pizza. Within a short walk is a fast-food burger place called the Habit, as well as a Wendy’s, and an Indian restaurant.
After driving around the San Fernando Valley late at night on a weekend and continually striking out trying to find a decent hotel with availability, a brilliant decision was made to employ a cell phone to expedite the search process. It worked even more brilliantly to help score a room at the Holiday Inn. Who can say what might have happened had the cell phone never been invented? Indeed, who can say? As for the room, it was average to small in size but was clean. It also had decent furniture and a comfortable bed. Bathroom equipment was fine except for a narrow shower. The AC controls worked well. Footsteps could be heard from the neighboring room at times. The Holiday Inn is located just off Ventura Boulevard and a couple blocks from the Ventura Freeway, and traffic noise was noticeable as well. Given these noise issues, if you are a light sleeper, a top floor room towards the back of the property is the best option. As for service, the front desk clerk started off with a bit of an attitude, but became more pleasant later on. The next front desk clerk in the morning was polite. There was not enough time for breakfast, but it looked fairly basic. This hotel had a certain “cheapness” which is hard to describe, but was noticeable in the general style and furnishings, thin floors, barebones lobby and in certain amenities like a microscopic pool. Overall, the stay was neither great nor a disaster. The hotel was OK for a night. From a price to value perspective it was around average.
