The automatic pancake machine kicked out pancakes to order and some black crusty stuff like burnt toast.

Fairfield Inn & Suites Raleigh-Durham Airport/Brier Creek is a midrange hotel located about 4 miles from the Raleigh-Durham Airport. The hotel was built in 2011 and has 6 floors, 99 rooms and 29 suites. It is nonsmoking and does not accept pets. A standard room ranges in price from $90-140, and a suite is about $20 extra.

Hotel amenities include an indoor pool and small workout room. There are also guest computers and a laundry room. All the rooms include a small refrigerator and microwave oven. As for the neighborhood, it was commercial in nature but was saturated with apartments and condos, and there were no restaurants within walking distance. The hotel offers a free courtesy shuttle within a 5 mile radius. While the airport is nearby, the plane flight path runs parallel to the hotel, so aircraft noise was not an issue. Highway noise though was noticeable as the hotel is a few hundred feet from an expressway. If you are sensitive to noise, ask for a room facing away from the highway.

This was another late arrival due to flight delays, so after picking up the luggage and a rental car, going to sleep became the priority. Unfortunately, the first room had an rather unpleasant odor and the second one had a nonfunctioning heater. As for the third room, either the third time’s a charm principle worked or general fatigue caused it to no longer matter. It was acceptable, although traffic noise was annoying. The bed was comfortable, the heater (thankfully) worked and the bathroom equipment worked OK as well. During the multiple return trips to the front desk to find an acceptable room, one clerk was helpful and apologetic but another was downright surly and surprisingly uncooperative. A full breakfast in the morning included some reasonably good eggs and potatoes. Pancakes were available out of an odd looking pancake machine which first kicked out some black crud. That kind of killed the pancake joy, but had to sample it anyway out of curiosity, and it tasted rubbery. While the hotel had some plusses, such as cleanliness and cost, given the overall experience this Fairfield Inn will not get a return visit or a recommendation.
