Besa’s Pizza & Pasta is a family-owned casual restaurant which opened in 2002. The menu features pizza, pasta, seafood and some meat dishes such as veal and chicken. Food is provided via table service, and free delivery is offered with a $15 minimum order. It’s also BYOB, and there is no corkage fee.

The restaurant has a small footprint with seating to the left of the entrance and along the right hand side wall facing the kitchen. The left seating area is a bit quieter and slightly more private, but overall volume here can still get loud, especially for weekend dinners. Besa’s attracts families with small children as well, so keep that in mind if you are looking for looking for a more intimate experience. The tables and chairs were sturdy and in good shape, but the table top was somewhat cramped for three people.

We immediately got a table on a Saturday night at 6:00pm, but it was in the back of the restaurant and closer to the bathrooms. Having eaten here before on a weekday night when it was quieter and less crowded, noise and congestion can make a quality difference. The server got the orders right and was polite but did not offer any recommendations. As for the food, the garlic bread was best with not too much garlic or butter and a reasonable crunchiness. However, the lobster ravioli was drowning in sauce, and the pasta tasted more like cheese than seafood - like something off of a store shelf. A specialty pizza with spinach, artichokes and onions also came up short. The contents slid off the first slice which is never a good sign. Other slices retained their toppings, but taste was bland, and the cheese was rubbery. On a positive note, the portions were above average in size. Also, there was no pressure to leave after we finished, so we had plenty of time to enjoy the wine. Besa’s can work as a casual food option when a hungry appetite trumps a discerning pallet. Picking a quieter night and moderating your expectations should enhance your experience.

I like the BYOB. I had the lobster raviolli in a pink vodka sauce and I felt like I was eating a can of chef boyardee. More family oriented.
