Thanks, but no thanks The Grand Hotel is located in Tusayan, just outside the South Rim entrance of Grand Canyon National Park. The hotel was built in 1998, and has 3 floors and 121 rooms. It has a chalet type appearance, with heavy wood accents and larger windows.

Facilities around the expansive lobby include a gift shop, restaurant and a bar. The lobby style is a bit rustic and outdoorsy. There are animal mounts of either deer or elk on the walls. A large fireplace and warming fire was a welcome sight after walking around the national park in freezing weather. There was plenty of ice and snow at that time of year but the hotel did a good job of clearing it all way from both the entrance and parking lot.

The first assigned room was a quieter one facing the rear of the property, but it had a flimsy toilet seat. That room was exchanged for one with a dormer window and facing the front of the property. Turning on the heat for about 30 minutes had no discernable effect on the second room’s temperature so this led to a third room that was right next to the elevator. It might have worked except for the location was a high traffic one and noisier, so this led to a request for an alternative. Given the time of night, length of the day and the desire to just get any room at this point, the first room and its shaky toilet, which had been fixed in the interim, became a viable option. The room’s sink was small and there were some nicks and scratches, especially in the bathroom. The heater did not cycle off during the night so the room got really stuffy by morning but this was preferable to no heat at all. Hot water in the shower was sporadic at times. While the staff was generally pleasant and tried their best to help, the facilities here simply did not measure up so a return visit would not be on the agenda. Rates tend to range from $90-210 depending on time of year and day of week. Pets are accepted on the first floor only and require a deposit. The hotel is non-smoking.
