Square Burger is an American style restaurant that features burgers, salads and fries. It’s located on McKinney Square, a historic area of McKinney, Texas, and home to a variety of restaurants, bars and mom and pop art shops. Square Burger serves food fast, but is not a fast food restaurant. Food is offered tableside and there is a full bar.

Square Burger opened in 2010 and has a single location. A chef here trained with Wolfgang Puck. The restaurant is located in a basic square shaped room. There are large glass windows looking out onto the Square and a long bar against a back wall. Tables are arranged fairly close together and the overall noise level can get loud, especially on weekends.

As the name would suggest, burgers are the focus here. The standard burger is 7.5 ounces but Square Burger also serves a smaller 5 ounce burger. The mushroom burger, which includes sautéed mushrooms, avocado slices, bacon and cheese was tasty and filling. Adding some aioli sauce made it taste even better. A slight negative was that the burger was cooked medium well, but it was requested medium. The turkey burger was also flavorful and cooked well, with just the right amount of moisture. It rated an 8-9 out of 10. The sweet potato fries are a distinctive dish and were crispy and light, not overly greasy. They also rated between an 8-9. For non-meat eaters, there are limited options. The macaroni and cheese was average, filling but nothing special. Spaghetti tasted better and the tomato sauce was rich. The regular French fries were well seasoned and tasty. While Square Burger is not gourmet dining, the table service, food quality and overall experience all met or exceeded expectations and dinner was satisfying.
