Attacking Sherman with 1/3 of the number of men Sherman had during the last weeks of the war indicates dedication or perhaps insanity.

Yorktown Battlefield
You may want to visit the nearby Victory Center, especially if you have kids. The staff gives great demonstrations with surgical instruments of the time, and canon and musket firings. The village shows the importation of crops like flax, and methods used on 18th century agriculture.

Bloody pond is also meaningful to children when a parent or guide gives a gruesome description of how it looked.

Some development in the area detracts from the feeling of the battlefield, but you can get a good idea of the casualties at the stone wall.

Richmond National Battlefield Park
Visited the battlefield again to see more of the units. The line of forts around Fort Harrison are worth seeing. They are well preserved and have informative historical signs. Also saw a smaller fort called Parker's Battery and will write a review of Drewry's Bluff, which was impressive as well.

Gettysburg National Military Park
I have visited many of the civil war battlefields, and this one is the best. The park gives you an incredible insight into the strategy and the tragedy of the battle.

Shiloh National Military Park
Look for the deer at dusk. There were literally hundreds of deer that came out into the open at dusk.
