Best time to visit
Residence Inn Tucson Airport is a midrange, extended stay, and all suites hotel. It was built in 2007 and has 3 floors and 124 suites. Room types include studio suites, as well as one and two bedroom suites. Rates for a studio suite typically range from $100-190, depending on time of year and day of the week. Pets are accepted here for an extra $50, and parking is free. The hotel, which is nonsmoking, is located within a mile of the Tucson Airport and about 8 miles from downtown Tucson. While parking is free, there are limited spots in front of the hotel, so it’s likely you will have to park in the back lot which is less convenient.
As the airport is close by, the immediate neighborhood is mostly additional hotels. There are also some fast food or fast casual type restaurants nearby including a Denny’s, Waffle House and Schlotzsky's. The hotel offers a courtesy shuttle to the airport and will provide transportation within a 4 mile radius as well, so even if you don’t have a car, the shuttle covers a wide enough area to provide access to a variety of shops and restaurants. As for hotel amenities, there is an outdoor heated pool, a barbeque grille and some comfortable outdoor covered seating. A half basketball court is also available. A complimentary breakfast is offered every day, and hours devours and beer and wine are served Monday-Wednesday evenings.
The front desk clerk at night was slovenly looking but assigned a room quickly. The first room smelled like cigarette smoke, and the clerk assigned a second room upon request and without any grief or attitude. The second studio suite was clean and furnishings were in good order. Interior noises were not an issue. However, exterior noise from the airport was noticeable in the morning and was moderately annoying. If you are noise sensitive, request a room away from the airport. It should help but probably won’t mitigate the airplane noise entirely. Bathroom equipment in the room worked properly, even though the shower was too narrow. The bed mattress was comfortable, and the sheets were clean. Bed pillows were on the skimpy side though. AC worked properly at night, but the room was a bit stuffy in the morning. As for breakfast, the eggs, potatoes and sausage containers were all empty upon arrival. A hotel clerk replenished each of them fairly quickly. While the eggs were bland, they were properly cooked. Fried potatoes were slightly spicy and were more enjoyable. A muffin was sweet and fresh. There was not enough time to make a waffle, but the waffles and related condiments looked tasty. Indoor seating was a bit tight, so you might wind up eating outside or away from the breakfast area during busier times. Had the room been quieter, this hotel would have scored higher, but it gets a 7 rating. The Residence Inn was better than average but probably would not be a first choice for lodging in the area.
