The Residence Inn is a midrange hotel with three floors and 84 room/suites. It's an all suite hotel and was built in 2007. Suites include studio, one, and two bedroom options. Rates for a studio typically range from $100-140. Pets are accepted for a nonrefundable $100 cleaning fee. Parking is free. Ocean City, Maryland is 30 minutes away and is a popular summertime beach town. As a result, rates can skyrocket here in summer, and the hotel often sells out.

Hotel amenities include an outdoor seasonal pool, a combination basketball/squash type of court, workout room and some guest computers. A complimentary breakfast is offered everyday as is a light dinner Monday-Wednesday. There is a mall across the highway with an Olive Garden, Red Lobster, and a Ruby Tuesday. The mall is only a short drive away, but the highway makes it an impractical place to walk to.

The check-in process was fairly smooth and included a courtesy upgrade to a one-bedroom suite. After that things went downhill. A hair was noted on the pillow, disconcerting but not a deal breaker. But then several fruit flies started flying around the room. Evidently, it's an issue at the hotel in the fall. After ignoring the flies for a while, they became too great of a nuisance. This meant having to go back down to the lobby, get a new room and then move the luggage. No flies were noted in the new room, but there was some mold on the shower tiles. While bathroom mold may not seem like that big of a deal, it points to laziness and lack of pride among the housekeeping staff. There also was a crack in the sink basin, so that should have been replaced. At this point checking out was a serious consideration, but it was late and sleep was the top priority. The bed was overly soft and not supportive enough to be comfortable. The AC though worked well. All the bathroom controls were in good order and worked properly. Highway noise was not an issue, but hallway noise was noticeable. Given the room situation and a bug or two in the hallway, breakfast was skipped the next day. When the issues were brought to the attention of the front desk clerk, she indicated that the most she could offer was a $20 room adjustment and to get more required a phone call to the manager. This was a very disappointing stay. It reflected poorly on the brand, the owners, and the staff.
