First review
Bamboo Club is an Asian casual dining restaurant. Chinese food is the main fare but is supplemented with Thai and Vietnamese dishes. The restaurant has a large dining room, open style kitchen, full bar and a sizable patio as well. It’s a contemporary place and is located in a contemporary shopping center.

The Scottsdale is sole surviving location of this chain which previously had other outlets in Arizona and in Florida. It's slightly dark inside. The decor is typified by smooth concrete floors, bright red table cloths, black tables and black booths as well as bamboo trim around the support beams. It has a vaguely Hawaiian look or Asian fusion style. The overall theme is inviting and somewhat exotic, which is probably the intent. Table privacy was good as well.

It’s always dicey eating a restaurant an hour prior to closing because you just know the service is going to be rushed. It can work if you are hungry, but is not conducive to relaxing. All the appetizers came out quickly and at the same time so probably not prepared to order, but the server knew the food well enough to provide useful feedback on the dish selections. Appetizers included lettuce wraps, veggie egg rolls, and hot and sour soup. Of the three, the lettuce wraps rated highest on presentation, taste and freshness. They had a pleasing water chestnut and chicken flavor. The egg rolls had a standard taste, were not too greasy, and were filling. However, the soup was much too sweet to be satisfying. Main courses consisted of a macadamia nut encrusted halibut and a sizzling Saigon chicken. Of the two, the halibut was better. It was perfectly cooked, tender and flavorful. Some asparagus and fried rice also complemented the dish. As for the chicken, the sauce was mildly spicy, but the chicken, mushrooms and onions were somewhat bland. While it’s understood that people want to go home at closing time, Bamboo Club loses points because restaurant chairs were being stacked on tables while people were still eating. No dessert was offered, and the lights were dimmed as well – not so subtle hints that it was time to leave. Either a restaurant should stay open so guests can enjoy their meals without being hurried or don't seat guests at all if the service is going to be so truncated. Aside from that aspect, the food was good enough to make a return visit possible but just not so close to closing time.
