Courtyard Thousand Oaks is a mid-tier hotel with 3 floors, 116 rooms and 4 king suites. The hotel is nonsmoking and does not accept pets. It was built in 2006 and fronts the Ventura Freeway. Parking is free. Rates for a standard room tend to range from $180-250 during the week and from $130-250 on weekends. Rooms include a small fridge and a microwave oven.

This Courtyard is one of the last of its kind in that it still has a traditional restaurant and buffet for breakfast. The hotel is planning to switch to the newer and less enjoyable bistro snack bar layout early in 2015. There also is a full bar. Dinner is served Monday-Thursday, which is also when the bar is open. Hotel amenities include an outdoor heated pool and a workout room. There are plenty of restaurant options in the immediate neighborhood and within an easy walking distance of the hotel, including: Chili's Grill & Bar, Cronies Sports Grill, a sushi place, an Italian restaurant and a steakhouse. The hotel does not offer a courtesy shuttle.

The check in process was smooth and pleasant. The clerk assigned the room expeditiously. The room was about average sized and at the end of the hall next to a storage room. In the morning there was some noise from the housekeepers opening and closing the storage room door, but the noise was not excessive. Highway noise was noticeable outside but was fairly quiet once inside. If you are noise sensitive ask for a room in the back of the property facing the pool. Room cleanliness was good, and the bed was comfortable. Also, the bathroom was clean. The shower was somewhat narrow, and the water got too hot at one point so had to be adjusted cooler. Air conditioning worked OK. The room was slightly stuffy in the morning but not enough to be uncomfortable. Breakfast was something to be savored, not just because it was good but because the restaurant layout marks the end of the traditional Courtyard era. A cook prepared an omelet made to order. It was not overly greasy and was tasty. The eggs and potatoes also worked from a taste perspective. A negative was receiving the bill before it was requested and also a sticky spot on the carpet near the table. This hotel delivered well in areas where it matters most such as value, room cleanliness, comfort, and service. It’s a good choice when you need a middle of the road accommodation in which to crash in greater LA.
