The French Quarter Inn is a boutique refined hotel in Charleston’s Historic District. The hotel was built in 2002 and has four floors, 40 rooms and 10 suites. It’s a nonsmoking property and does not accept pets. Room rates for a basic queen room typically ranges from $200-360. Valet parking is another $23 per day. There is no self parking, but you can try for street metered parking if you plan to leave early the next day.

The hotel does not have a pool or workout room, but workout facilities are available at a nearby gym for a nominal charge. Complimentary bicycles are also offered. There is a guest computer in the lobby, and the rooms have a small refrigerator. Room service includes an evening turndown service. Also, the hotel provides a glass of champagne upon arrival, a wine and cheese service in the evening, cookies at night and a continental breakfast in the morning. As for the neighborhood, there are dozens of restaurants within a 10 minute walk. Charleston's Historic Market, which is home to multiple vendors selling a variety of goods, is a block away.

Service initially was pleasant and professional, but the room's location was problematic. A high floor quiet room request had been made and reiterated at the time of the reservation. Unfortunately, the assigned room was on the second floor and in the middle of the hall. The hotel was sold out and so no other rooms were available. Upon returning to the room later that night, it became clear that the heater did not work. A clerk came up and advised waiting 20 minutes. After 20 minutes of no heat, he returned with a space heater. It worked, but seriously a space heater at a high-end hotel! Taking a shower the next morning was unpleasant as the water did not drain adequately. While the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, the other issues killed the joy of staying here. When these problems were discussed with the front desk clerk the next day, she offered a mere $50 off the bill. Less expensive hotels would have waived the entire charge. While the French Quarter Inn has charm and curb appeal, major room lapses and service shortcomings cannot be overlooked. This will be a onetime visit.
