The classic blue margarita is the mainstay drink. It's frozen and served from a Slurpee type machine.

Blue Mesa is a bar and Mexican food restaurant with five locations in the Dallas metro area. The design and layout is stylish with hardwood floors, track lighting and lighter colors. Tacos, enchiladas, tequila and margaritas are mainstay items. There is a popular brunch on weekends. The Addison Blue Mesa also has late night dancing and drink specials on various nights.

Blue Mesa opened in Addison in 1988. In 2013 it moved a few blocks to its current location. It has a southwestern adobe style exterior with a contemporary upscale interior. The other Blue Mesa locations have a similar appearance but their footprints vary a bit. They are all combination bar/restaurants. The focal point of the Addison location is the bar itself and a large seating area next to it. Dining rooms are off to the side. This configuration is a plus from a noise perspective but a minus for traffic flow because the bar area frequently gets congested. It works OK when crowds are light but when it’s packed, navigating through the masses to get to the bathroom or to mingle can be a challenge worthy of a BlitzQuest.

Addison is saturated with office workers and Blue Mesa is a magnet for them when the clock hits 5:00pm on weekdays. Happy hour at Blue Mesa means free chips and salsa as well as quesadillas, but as for the quality, you tend to get what you pay for. Happy hour drinks included the classic blue margarita, which is a frozen signature drink served from a mixing machine. It was a bit sour and light on alcohol. A few sips were enough. The second drink was a top shelf special with tequila and lime juice. It was slightly better than the blue but not much. The alcohol was MIA again and the overall taste was too sweet, not very appetizing. It must be noted that Blue Mesa is a popular place, so maybe its charms were just not as evident on this particular night. Parking is good and the décor is sharp, but the quality of the food and drinks came up way short.
