The hotel has a hip and stylish look at night. This is from across the street.

The Aloft Houston by the Galleria is a mid-range hotel in west Houston. The hotel was built in 2009 and has 152 rooms. It has an urban loft type design, with high ceilings, concrete accents, more spartan rooms and a lobby area that somewhat resembles a club setting. The hotel is a non-smoking property but does allow pets.
The Aloft is in a more upscale part of Houston and is not far from Highway 610. The enormous and high-end Galleria Mall hotel which is only half a mile away has a number of good restaurant options and several popular department stores. The Aloft has a fairly compact design; rooms are located on floors 6-10, and there is a parking garage on floors 1-5. Both the valet parking and self-parking options cost extra. The hotel also offers a courtesy shuttle within a few miles radius on weekdays.
The hotel scores points for its look and style, but when a slick appearance and contemporary edge conflict with function and utility, the resulting experience can be lacking. For example, the room looked cool, like an artist's pad, but it was small, had minimal furnishings and was not especially comfortable. A simple wooden partition separated the bed from the bathroom sink. There was not really a closet, but more of just a shelf with a cloth partition. Electrical outlets were inadequate and poorly located. The desk was small and there was no luggage rack. Noise from the hallway was noticeable and the room heater also was excessively noisy. Front desk service was generally pleasant and professional but a request for extra towels (as there were not many in the room) took a while to be acted upon. The shower had a liquid soap dispenser rather than a regular bar of soap. On the plus side, the bed, which did not have box springs, was comfortable and the room was very clean and tidy. If you are looking for a more hip hotel, the Aloft delivers, but it comes up a bit short for comfort and spaciousness and value for the money.
