The Courtyard Sacramento Cal Expo is a mid-range hotel. It has 3 floors, 148 rooms and 4 suites. Amenities include a restaurant for breakfast and dinner, outdoor pool, a workout room and a bar. The Courtyard is located next to the Capital City Freeway (I-80) and near Riverfront Park. It’s also close to Old North Sacramento, a part of town with a number of antique shops and restaurants.

The Courtyard and a neighboring Fairfield Inn were previously part of the Beverly Garland Hotel and after significant renovation work were opened in 2007. A TownePlace Suites at the same location was built in 2007. The Courtyard has a traditional restaurant and serves a full buffet breakfast, but the restaurant is due to be replaced by a bistro type snack shop in 2013. Riverfront Park, which has a long bike trail, is only a few minutes away and the Courtyard rents bicycles. A courtesy shuttle is offered within a few mile of the hotel on weekdays.

This hotel met or exceeded expectations. The room was clean and quiet and relatively spacious. Both the air-conditioning and the heating worked well and were quiet. The bed was firm and comfortable. There was plenty of hot water in the shower and plenty of towels in the bathroom. The hotel rooms also include mini fridges but not microwaves. Interior hotel noise was not an issue, but traffic noise from the freeway was noticeable, especially outdoors. If you are noise sensitive, it's wise to request a room with a courtyard view and/or a room facing away from the highway. Front desk service was professional and courteous. A housekeeper entered the room in the morning without knocking, a minor negative. It was a mistake but is one that should not be made at a quality hotel. All in all, the Courtyard provided a satisfactory lodging experience and would merit a return visit. Room prices range between $85 and $140. Parking is free.
